Because I have no children or family in need, I have more than enough to live on comfortably. That enables me to give away almost 2/3 of my income per year, which is about the salary of a VP at a large corporation. This is a wonderful privilege and I love it.
But just because I have access to lots of cash doesn't mean I know the best way to use it. So over the past ten years I researched heavily in my areas of interest to determine how I can best help maintain the human species on this planet beyond the next 50 years.
My brothers and I created a family foundation to address teen youth issues. I read widely on globalization and helped start an action-oriented think tank in DC that addresses the legal status of corporations. I became a popular education trainer in the field of economics. I read widely on the phenomenon of money and helped start another nonprofit to administer complementary currencies. And I financed a foray into local politics, running for the local hospital board.
But the most important thing we all can do is concentrate on saving ourselves from our current path to extinction. There's so much denial about this issue. Worse, I know my wealth contributes to our headlong rush to eradicate ourselves. If we could bring to life Mark Hertsgaard's "Global Green Deal”, and as a species decide to reverse our current path, everyone would have a meaningful job. | West | 40 to 59 Years Old | $1-$10M | at least 50% | Inheritance | | Children/Youth | Environment | Impact |
